DUA WANITA TUA DUDUK

By Mimi Sila

It is the reality that humans cannot live without the company of one another. People of all ages equally have social needs that push them to communicate and interact with their peers. Mimi Sila depicts this reality in her painting of two elderly ladies who are talking while sitting close to each other. Looking at their garbs, you'll see that they are wearing traditional garments. Javanese women of the past used to wear this kind of clothing as their everyday outfit. A piece of cloth goes around their figures, covering them waist down, and for their top, a sort of Lurik. In recent times, people rarely wear this kind of get up, having been left behind by the changing of times.
