She was a high-achieving student, winning the award from Wendy Sorenson Memorial Foundation and receiving a spot at the Contemporary Asian Art exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. The kind of get-together captured in this painting is one that is still very common in present-day Indonesia. Girls usually gather like this after they have completed their chores. That may include assisting their parents with work, cooking, cleaning and an assortment of other activities. Getting together with their friends is a way for them to exchange stories and refresh after a long day of work.
