N. Tilem

Nelayan (Fisherman)

Njana Tilem is the pseudonym of Ida Bagus Njana and his son Ida Bagus Tilem, a couple of internationally famous sculptors who come from Bali. Together they built a museum named Njana Tilem Museum in Desa Mas, Ubud.

From the style of this sculpture titled "Fisherman," we could guess that it is the work of Ida Bagus Njana. Njana often picks a theme that would represent the lives of the Balinese society, something that is close to him. Being surrounded by the sea, many of the Balinese people who live on its shores take up fishing as their primary occupation. Njana took inspiration from this aspect of the Balinese life and captured it with this sculpture of an old fisherman preparing to cast his net. Despite his old age, the man seems to show vigour as he readies himself for his catch of the day. Njana shows this well in the way that he crafted the man's eyes.

Rama and Shinta

The story of Rama and Shinta is about the determination of love, like the story of the couple Romeo and Juliet. The story that comes from India aired to several countries and reached the land of Java. Of course the story has a little composition from the original version, which might adjust to the "climate" of each country.
