Torch Ginger

Jakarta, November 27th, 1934. Fellow artists and wedded lovers Affandi and Maryati celebrated the birth of their daughter. They named her Kartika. Having two great artist as parents hugely impacted her. Artistry runs in her veins. In her paintings, Kartika uses the same method as her father, Affandi, called plototan. It involves putting paint on the canvas straight from the tube. What differentiates Kartika’s paintings and those of her Papi (read pap-py) is her use of color and atmosphere. Affandi leaned towards dark colors and sorrowful ambiance. Meanwhile, Kartika places her artwork on the opposite spectrum, using bright colors and cheerful atmospheres. Among her work is this one called Torch Ginger.
