This painting, which is called "Chrysanthemum," is the work of a Yogyakarta-born artist named Men Sagan. The painter, who studied his craft from Affandi, picked that name for himself, refusing to tell the world his birth name. The name Men Sagan itself means that he hails from Sagan, an area in Yogyakarta.

The chrysanthemum, also known as the mums, consists of different colors and varieties. Due to its aromatic scent, the flower is often used as an addition in tea. Chrysanthemum was first cultivated in Japan, and its liking is captured in the country's imperial seal. Similarly, in China, the flower is thought to represent nobility. Chrysanthemum's entry to Indonesia happened in the 17th century and it was grown in West Java.
